Nunca me ha interesado esta serie y William Shatner es una de las personas que más odio de la TV. Pero este trailer me hace tener un poco de interes por esta franquicia que comenzó en 1966.

Pues como todo mundo, hace listas para despedir el año. Les dejo las rolas que para mi gusto no pueden faltarles, no es una recopilación del 2008, sino de la música que he recolectado en este año que termina. Algunos como Aphrodite´s Child son sencillos de 1970, pero muy, muy adelantados a su tiempo.

Aphrodite’s Child - "The Four Horsemen"

Banda de Griegos que pegaron en Francia y luego en el Reino Unido a finales de los sesentas. Su mayor logro fue el álbum 666, donde se nota mucho el uso del LCD y la influencia de los Beatles.

Kings of Leon - "Sex on Fire"

Banda norteamericana que con su última producción ha logrado llenar festivales masivos en Europa. Este siendo el cuarto de su discografía.

The Pretty Things - "Baron Saturday"

Londinenses de nacimiento, parte de la British Invasion durante los sesentas, pioneros junto con Rolling Stones en el R&B.

The Soundtrack Of Our Lives (TSOOL) - "Infra Riot"

Suecos que comenzaron a sonar en 1995 pero que alcanzaron el éxito alrededor del 2000 debido a su aportación titulada Behind the music. Origen punk pero que se convirtió en rock alternativo.

Glassvegas - "Its my own cheating Heart that makes my cry"

Si la ciudad de Glassgow cantára, así sonaría. Formada hace un par de años, estos escoceses han ogrado llamar la atención de todo el Reino Unido. Un sonido folk con letras sinceras y fuertes.

Michael Andrews - "The Artifact And Living"

Musico y compositor Norteamericano. Conocido por su buen manejo del piano y la guitarra.

Marmalade - "I See The Rain"

Antes conocidos como Dean Ford and the Gaylords, son un grupo de Escoceses que tocaRockPop desde finales de 1960.

The Shore - "Listen to me"

Gringos anti-gringos. Rock progresivo de Silver Lake, California, medio folky uufffff

Colosseum - "The Kettle"

Banda británica de jazz progresivo del año del 68.

MGMT - "Electric Feel"

Estos dos geniales productores, que decidieron tomar los instrumentos y crear un grupo. The Management trae sonidos familiares pero en una manera que nunca has escuchado.

OASIS Live at Knebworth 1996

Este concierto captura a la banda en la cima de su carrera. Todas las drogas, todo el cinismo y todo el rock & roll cambió para ellos despúes de estas dos magíficas fechas en uno de los festivales musciales más grandes del Reino Unido en el parque Knebworth en Hertfordshire.

La calidad está pasable, al igual que el audio. Yo sigo sin entender por que no sacan este concierto en DVD.

The Rifles

The Rifles es una banda de Chingford, Londres. Grupo Indie alternativo underground.

Se dieron a conocer en el medio con su sencillo “Local Boy” que sonó en un programa de fútbol ingles llamado Soccer am. No Love Lost fue el nombre que llevó su primer material y fue producido por Ian Broudi. Después de un par de años de gira en Europa, lanzan este material llamado Greate Escape.

The Little Kicks

Un amplio rango de influencias se le pueden atribuir al sonido The Little Kicks. Desde Dylan, Velvet Underground, Johnny Cash hasta bandas más recientes como INTERPOL, Muse, The Strokes y The Rapture. Una mezcla como estas solo puede traer música nueva y agradable.

Sus bien estructuradas canciones poperas pueden subir o bajar de ritmo. Toma unas cuantas tracks para sentir la patada de The Little Kiks. Los vocales de Milne se llevarán tu atención y serán llenadas por melodías pegajosas e inteligentes.

Con suerte para nosotros, tardará un rato en que la industria los conozca y los compre para convertirse en una de tantas bandas Indie.

The Junipers - Cut you Key

The Junipers es una banda local de Leicester Inglaterra. El centro de la misma esta en Joe Wiltshire y el vocalista marc Johnston, quienes juntaron la banda para crear un beat que se asemeja a los inicios no “disco” de los Bee Gees y The Monkees.

Aseguran que entre todos ellos tienen una colección de discos para morirse, y eso se ve reflejado en todas las influencias musicales que nos muestran en este disco.

Después de 10 años de proyectos y unos cuantos millones por apariciones con otras bandas, Blur se reune para crear un nuevo sonido y ver si pueden sorprenderse a ellos mismos y a sus fans.

La esposa de mi carnal me trajo esta revista del viejo continete hace una semana. Dentro de la misma viene una nota de la cual, antes de conocerla, nos dió unos buenos 20 minutos de platica entre mis amigos cuando asistimos al concierto en la Arena Monterrey.

Antes de que Oasis saliera a tocar, el DJ encargado de la música nos dió una cátedra de buen rock & roll. Pues bueno, despúes de que Diana y yo nos metimos a la red y encontramos dos grupos, esta revista nos regala las 10 ultimas rolas que ponen antes de comenzar el gig. Creo que algunas de estas no fueron tocadas en México, pero si todas son como las que escuchamos, son bienvenidas.

Lo más reciente de Secret Machines, a diferencia de su material pasado, los gringos han creado un género al cual le llaman "space music"... what ever that means.

Suena muy diferente alo que tocaron en vivo acá en Mty. "Las believer drop dead" fue con lo que abrieron en Oasis y luego si no me equivoco "Lightning blue eyes", para cerrar con Underneath the Concrete.

Kula Shaker

Kula Shaker fue una de las bandas icónicas del post-brit-pop. Reviviendo los chillidos de guitarra de los 60´s y mezclandolo con el sonido indie del George Harrison psicodélico. Esta mezcla los catapulto a la cima de los charts en el Reino Unido, convirtiendose en un estandarte del Rock & Roll moderno en la ciudad de Manchester.

Lidereados por el vocalista y guitarrista Cripian Mills y su amigo Alonza Beavian (bajista), se consolido este sonido y se complementaron con el baterista Paul Winterhart y el vocalista Saul Dimont. A la salida de este último, se unio a ellos el tecladista Jay Darlington (a la derecha en la primer foto). Al cual muchas personas no reconocen con su nuevo look the Jesucristo o como sus compañeros de banda, siendo específicos, Noel, apoda Gandalf.

"Grateful When You´re Dead", fue el sencillo de Kula Shaker lanzado en 1996, pero fue "Tattva" segundo sencillo de su álbum el que les dió el estatus de estrellas de rock.

Les recomiendo que se hagan de este primer disco titulado K, aún se puede encontrar en Mixup o tienda especializada.

OASIS Standing on the Edge of the Noise

Antes de comenzar la gira mundial de Dig Out Your Soul (DOYS), Oasis dió un pequeño concierto para 200 fanaticos que participaron en un concurso para atender a esta presentación en vivo de su más reciente material. Al ser un venue pequeño, Liam no trata de gritar, por lo tanto se escucha muy pero muy bien.

Oasis @ Arena Monterrey 29/11/08

El concierto que Oasis dio la noche del sábado estuvo lleno de sorpresas. Desde un cambio de playlist hasta actitudes nunca antes vistas de los hermanos en nuestro país.

El acceso al inmueble fue un poco raro, al menos en los años que llevo de vivir en Mty, nunca había visto que se hiciera una fila de esta magnitud con tantas horas de anticipación. Ya dentro y bien colocados (costado derecho del escenario) entre Liam y Noel esperábamos a The Secret Machines.

Los gringos no lo hicieron mal, y para su corta edad en el medio, ya le han taloneado a U2 y a estos gigantes de la isla. Con su peculiar manera de iluminar sus taquines para mantener “secretas” sus identidades, nos deleitaron con su más reciente producción, la cual se acerca más a un género alternativo que a lo experimental de sus dos primeras producciones. El sonido maravilloso, creo que a todos los asistentes les llenaron el oído.

Alrededor de las 21hrs, la ya clásica rola Fucking in the Bushes explotó en los amplificadores del venue, volviendo locos a todos los asistentes. Apoyados por un buen show de luces y 2 pantallas gigantes en los costados del escenario, Oasis y toda su fuerza comenzaron los 90 minutos más rocanroleros de este año 2008.

Rock & Roll Star fue la primera de muchas rolas clásicas de la banda. Impresionante la fuerza vocal de Liam a sus 37 años. Notable el apoyo musical de Gem Archer sobre este el más jóven de los Gallagher. Noel un maestro como siempre, medido, pero contento.

Esta banda reacciona mucho a como la gente los apoya, es decir, Oasis no es de dar speeches sobre religión o política, “who gives a flying fuck”. En esta ocasión, tanto Liam como su hermano Noel mostraban su estado de ánimo, el cual fue fenomenal.

Slide Away fue el regalo de la banda para México. Una rola que no habían tocado en esta, la primera “leg” de su tour mundial. Le siguieron éxitos como Lyla, The Importance of being Idle, wonderwall y Dont Look Back in Anger.

Como postre nos regalaron el cover de “I Am the Walrus” de los Beattles, canción que tocaban al final de sus conciertos durante los 90´s. Esta rola se incluye en el disco de Magical Mistery Tour, el cual era sopa de todos los días para los Gallagher durante la grabación de Definitely maybe.

Well, Ricky turned up. Sven didn't. Mexico have lost a couple of games and apparently he's not flavour of the month. He thought it would be best if he didn't play out. He sends his regards though. Shame. I loved that man.

Gig wasn't all that, to be honest. We haven't played for 2 weeks and it felt like it.Nursing a sore head today. Sat up most of the night drinking with Ricky. Feeling it now though. Good job we've got a day off. Not in any fit shape to do anything other than stay in bed and watch TV, which is exactly what I'm doing.

Flying to Guadalajara tonight. Gonna get me some room service now, so...hasta luego.

We've finally made it to Mexico. That day of press in LA was great. All of us went into Indie 103 see that Sex Pistol Steve Jones. He's fuckin' great, Jonesy. We had a top laugh. The show descended into farce when he ran an impromptu competition to win tickets to come see Oasis next week. Fuckin' funny.

Sven-Göran Eriksson's coming to the show tonight! Can't wait.
We seem to have lost Ricky Hatton in a sea of Guinness. Fuck knows where he is. Hope he makes it.

Oasis ya está en EUA y vienen para México

Oasis ya está en el continente Americano. Despúes de 2 semanas de descanso que interrumpieron el tour mundial de su último disco. Los muchachos de Manchester fueron a las Vegas a apoyar a su compañero y conciudadano Ricky Hatton. La pelea de la cual resulto ganador, asistieron estrellas de todo tipo, entre ellos Becks.

Esto es lo que nos dice Noel:
"Now then, it's been a couple of weeks. How's things?

Been in that Las Vegas for the last couple of days. Me and wots'iz'name were carrying Ricky Hatton's belts out for his world title fight against Paulie something-or-other. A great, great night. What a buzz! The atmospherics at Ricky's fights are unbelievable.

Meet David Beckham for the very first time and I can tell you he smells magnificent!! Fuck me, we had a proper drink up afterwards. Felt like a lump of shit yesterday though.

On the way to LA today. Got to do a couple of days of press then fly down to Mexico. Few gigs there. Back to the States for 3 weeks touring.

It's good to be back.

For me, James Brown was never just the voice. It was the whole package. But the impact of that voice gave me hope, because it was a simple presentation and didn't trade on range. And there was that scream. It was like an inner voice. It sounded like an assertion of rights of primitive man: "I am alive, and I can do things." He used to describe his dancing as "African nerve control." He had a point.

The first time i saw Otis, i had no idea who he was. It was on the sidewalk at 926 East McLemore Avenue in Memphis, which was Stax Rec-ords. This guy was unloading equipment and suitcases from a station wagon, taking it into the studio. He was a driver for the singer Johnny Jenkins. I didn't see him much the rest of the day until later, when he asked for his audition. He sang "These Arms of Mine." It was in B-flat.

Bob Dylan did what very, very few singers ever do. He changed popular singing. And we have been living in a world shaped by Dylan's singing ever since. Almost no one sings like Elvis Presley anymore. Hundreds try to sing like Dylan. When Sam Cooke played Dylan for the young Bobby Womack, Womack said he didn't understand it. Cooke explained that from now on, it's not going to be about how pretty the voice is. It's going to be about believing that the voice is telling the truth.

To understand Bob Dylan's impact as a singer, you have to imagine a world without Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Lucinda Williams or any other vocalist with a cracked voice, dirt-bowl yelp or bluesy street howl. It is a vast list, but so were the influences on Dylan, from the Talmudic chanting of Allen Ginsberg in "Howl" to the deadpan Woody Guthrie and Lefty Frizzell's murmur. There is certainly iron ore in there, and the bitter cold of Hibbing, Minnesota, blowing through that voice. It's like a knotted fist, and it allows Dylan to sing the most melancholy tunes and not succumb to sentimentality. What's interesting is that later, as he gets older, the fist opens up, to a vulnerability. I have heard him sing versions of "Idiot Wind" where he was definitely the idiot.

There's no sound like Marvin Gaye: the way he sang so softly, almost gently — but also with so much power. That came straight from the heart. Everything in his life — everything that he thought and felt — affected his singing.

These days we have Pro Tools and a thousand tracks, and you can do different vocals on every track. But back then you really had to innovate, like the way Marvin answered himself in songs, or all that really distant backing work, where his voice is all the way in the back and echoing. It's haunting; he delivered every single song with such clarity that it gave me chills.

There was a tremendous intimacy in everything John Lennon did, combined with a formidable intellect. That is what makes him a great singer. In "Girl," on Rubber Soul, he starts in this steely, high voice: "Is there anybody going to listen to my story. . . ." It's so impassioned, like somebody stepping from the shadows in a room. But when he comes to the chorus, you suddenly realize: He's talking directly to her. When I heard this, as a young teenager, it hit the nail on the head. It embodied the feelings I was living with every day — completely burning with sexual desire, with almost a regret at being so overpowered.

Sam Cooke reached down deep with pure soul. He had the rare ability to do gospel the way it's supposed to be — he made it real, clean, direct. Gospel drove Sam Cooke through his greatest songs, the same way it did for Ray Charles, who came first, and Otis Redding.

He had an incomparable voice. Sam Cooke could sing anything and make it work. But when you're talking about his strength as a singer, range is not relevant. It was his power to deliver — it was about his phrasing, the totality of his singing.

There is a difference between people who sing and those who take that voice to another, otherworldly place, who create a euphoria within themselves. It's transfiguration. I know about that. And having met Elvis, I know he was a transformer.
The first Elvis song I heard was "Hound Dog." I wasn't equipped with any of the knowledge I have now, about the Big Mama Thornton version or where all that swing was coming from. I just heard this voice, and it was absolutely, totally in its own place. The voice was confident, insinuating and taking no prisoners. He had those great whoops and diving moments, those sustains that swoop down to the note like a bird of prey. I took all that in. You can hear that all over Led Zeppelin.
When I met Elvis with Zeppelin, after one of his concerts in the early Seventies, I sized him up. He wasn't quite as tall as me. But he had a singer's build. He had a good chest — that resonator. And he was driven. "Anyway You Want Me" is one of the most moving vocal performances I've ever heard. There is no touching "Jailhouse Rock" and the stuff recorded at the King Creole sessions. I can study the Sun sessions as a middle-aged guy looking back at a bloke's career and go, "Wow, what a great way to start." But I liked the modernity of the RCA stuff. "I Need Your Love Tonight" and "A Big Hunk o' Love" were so powerful — those sessions sounded like the greatest place to be on the planet.
At that meeting, Jimmy Page joked with Elvis that we never soundchecked — but if we did, all I wanted to do was sing Elvis songs. Elvis thought that was funny and asked me, "Which songs do you sing?" I told him I liked the ones with all the moods, like that great country song "Love Me" — "Treat me like a fool/Treat me mean and cruel/But love me." So when we were leaving, after a most illuminating and funny 90 minutes with the guy, I was walking down the corridor. He swung 'round the door frame, looking quite pleased with himself, and started singing that song: "Treat me like a fool. . . ." I turned around and did Elvis right back at him. We stood there, singing to each other.
By then, because of the forces around him, it was difficult for him to stretch out with more contemporary songwriters. When he died, he was 42. I'm 18 years older than that now. But he didn't have many fresh liaisons to draw on — his old pals weren't going to bring him the new gospel. I know he wanted to express more. But what he did was he made it possible for me, as a singer, to become otherworldly.

Ray Charles had the most unique voice in popular music. He would do these improvisational things, a little laugh or a "Huh-hey!" It was as if something struck him as he was singing and he just had to react to it. He was getting a kick out of what he was doing. And his joy was infectious.
But there was something else I didn't realize until we sang together in the Eighties, on my song "Baby Grand." When he sings, he's not just singing soulfully. He is imparting his soul. You are hearing something deep within the man. I thought it would just turn me into this little nerd from Levittown, New York. But it didn't. It emboldened me. It was like an evangelical event. He was the minister and I was the congregation. I got all fired up.
Ray started out wanting to be Nat "King" Cole. When Nat went down low in a song, like "Mona Lisa," there was a growl in there that was kind of sexy. Ray took that to a whole other level. He took the growl and turned it into singing. He took the yelp, the whoop, the grunt, the groan, and made them music.
Also, he was a piano player. The piano is a percussion instrument. You put your body into it. Ray had a lot of unique body movements I didn't know until I saw him. Before I saw him, I heard those movements as he sang. I heard his shoulder go up a little on the left side, the way he lifted himself off the stool. Then I realized the voice I was hearing was also playing that piano.
The first Ray Charles I heard was Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. He'd had hits before that, the R&B stuff, like "What'd I Say." But here is a black man giving you the whitest possible music in the blackest possible way, while all hell is breaking loose with the civil rights movement. When he sang "You Don't Know Me," I thought, "He isn't just singing the lyrics. He's saying, 'You don't know me. Get to know me.' "
He could be very sly with a song. His 1972 version of "America the Beautiful" is an iconic recording. There was so much feeling in his performance. It was his way of saying, "This is my country too. We gave you your popular music. This was ours before it was yours."
But Ray synthesized the blues into a language everybody could relate to. You can't listen to Ray Charles and not say, "This is a man who felt deeply, who has lived this music." He shows you his humanity. The spontaneity is evident. Another guy might say, "That was a mistake, we can't leave that in." No, Ray left it in. The mistake became the hook.

You know a force from heaven. You know something that God made. And Aretha is a gift from God. When it comes to expressing yourself through song, there is no one who can touch her. She is the reason why women want to sing.
Aretha has everything — the power, the technique. She is honest with everything she says. Everything she's thinking or dealing with is all in the music, from "Chain of Fools" to "Respect" to her live performances. And she has total confidence; she does not waver at all. I think her gospel base brings that confidence, because in gospel they do not play around — they're all about chops, who has the vocal runs. This is no game to her.
As a child, I used to listen to Aretha's music because my mom played "Do Right Woman" and "Ain't No Way" every single day. I would see my mother cry when she listened to those songs, and I'd cry too. Then I discovered her on my own with the Sparkle soundtrack. I must have played "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" 30 times in a row; eventually, I connected the dots to that voice my mom was listening to.
Even the way she pronounces words is amazing: In "Giving Him Something He Can Feel," when she sings, "Many say that I'm too young" — the way she says "I'm," you can almost see her saying it, like she's all in your face, but you're still right with her. You can really visualize her hands when she sings, "You're tying both of my hands," on "Ain't No Way" — it's the powerful way she hits the word "both."
When you watch her work, you can see why Aretha is who she is. When we did the song "Don't Waste Your Time" on my album Mary, she just went in there and ate that record like Pac-Man. She could be doing a church vocal run, and it would turn into some jazz-space thing, something I never encountered before. You'd say, "Where did that come from? Where did she find that note?"
It's beautiful to see, because it helps people with a lack of confidence in their ability, like myself. I look at her and think, "I need a piece of that. Whatever that is."

Eagles of Dead Metal

EODM dio a conocer detalles sobre su nuevo disco. Llevará el nombre de "Heart On" y se espera tener el master para Enero 26 del 2009.

La alineación es la misma que en los dos discos pasados, pero esta vez tendrá a Jesse Hughes (vocalista) y a Josh Homme (back vocals) a cargo de la batería. Como invitados estará la esposa y vocalista de The Distillers Brody Dalle, y a Troy Van Leeuwen de Queens of The Stone Age.


El primer sencillo será "wanna e in LA" el 19 de Enero del 2009.

The Secret Machines Support Band

La banda originaria de Texas, será el grupo telonero de Oasis en su gira por México. Las máquinas secretas no son extrañas al público mexica, ya que durante el Vertigo Tour de U2 acompañaron a los Irlandeses casi toda la gira.

Es una lastima que Kasabian acompañará a Oasis en los Estados Unidos y no en nuestro país.

The Secret Machines es un grupo alternativo, con una gran base de fanáticos en Seattle y Los Angeles. Se caracteriza por el uso de sintetizadores, pedales y todo tipo de gadget musical.

Tienen buenas rolas como Underneath de concrete y Still see you.

CARDINOLOGY

Un Ryan Adams renacido. Excelente disco, el hecho de que trae una banda completa de buenos músicos eleva aún mas el poderío de este artista norteamericano. Ryan y the cardinals estan siendo banda soporte de Oasis en su tour por Canadá y EUA.
